What is a California legal rebuilt transmission

To be called a rebuilt transmission In the state of California the Bureau of Automotive Repairs has made it mandatory that the following be included in all transmissions rebuilt in California

1. Transmission must be removed, completedly disassembled and overhauled, including the valve body.
                   The following parts must be replaced with new     (Note: most prices quoted will not include hard parts)
2. It must have all gaskets and seals
3. front and rear bushings
(if applicable)
4. filter
5. all
friction discs (clutches)
6. Intermediate and drive bands
(relined bands are acceptable)
7. Fluids

                    The above is what California requires in a rebuilt transmission.

It also states that hard parts (pumps, drums, gears, parts other than those listed above) that are necessary to effect a permanent repair may be charged extra. They also require what is called important notice be signed which states the above, at the time the repair order is placed by the consumer.

Out of state rebuilt transmissions do not necessarily have to follow these guidelines.
